Start with the surface
A finish that fits
the building.
A paint schedule works best when each surface has a defined preparation, primer and finish.
For homes, apartments, offices and commercial refurbishments, record what is being coated and how it will be used. Exposure, cleaning, lighting and the condition of the existing surface all influence the selection.
Get help with your specification ↗01 / Internal walls & ceilings
Review Interior Paint for walls and Ceiling Paint overhead. Assess new plaster, repaired areas and differences in surface absorption before coating.
02 / External façades & masonry
Consider Exterior Paint for a painted finish or Acrylic Texture Coating for a textured appearance. Address moisture ingress, unsound render and cracks before selecting the finish.
03 / Doors, frames & trim
Use Trim Paint where a gloss architectural finish is specified. Confirm the preparation and primer for the material and any existing coating.
04 / Bare, patched or porous areas
Assess Primer Paint as the sealing and undercoating stage. Staining, unstable old coatings and unusual substrates may need a different preparation or specialist primer.
Preparation → priming → finishing
Build the finish from the substrate up.
Inspect & define
Identify the substrate, existing paint, exposure and desired sheen. Check for dampness, loose material and defects. Agree the scope before ordering.
Clean & repair
Remove contamination and unsound coatings. Repair defects, allow suitable curing and prepare retained paint for adhesion. Treat the cause of moisture problems.
Seal & undercoat
Select a compatible primer where required. Pay attention to bare patches and changes in porosity. Check adhesion on uncertain existing finishes.
Apply & inspect
Follow the selected product data for coats, coverage and recoating. Maintain a wet edge and inspect a representative sample under the intended lighting.
Useful answers
Plan your painting project.
Selection guidance for property owners, painters, builders and specifiers.
Which paint should I choose for walls, ceilings and trim?
Start with the surface. ALKA Interior Paint is the low-sheen wall option; ALKA Ceiling Paint provides an ultra-flat ceiling finish; ALKA Trim Paint provides a gloss finish for trim and joinery. Check the substrate and primer requirements before selecting the complete build.
Do I need a primer when repainting?
That depends on the existing coating, adhesion, porosity and repairs. Remove loose material, clean the surface and assess sound retained paint. Bare patches and absorbent surfaces may need priming. ALKA Primer Paint is a primer/sealer/undercoat option; confirm suitability for the specific surface.
Can I use architectural paint as waterproofing?
Do not substitute a decorative paint for a specified waterproofing system. Wet areas, persistent dampness and water ingress need assessment and an appropriate waterproofing solution before the decorative finish is considered.
Are colours and tint bases available?
The range includes white and selected tint bases, with availability varying by product. Share the colour reference, finish and quantity with ALKA. Assess a physical sample in the project lighting before committing; on-screen colours are indicative only.
How much paint will my project need?
Provide the area, substrate, texture, existing colour and proposed finish. Product coverage is a starting point; porosity, preparation, application losses and the required number of coats affect the order quantity. Confirm the allowance against current product data.
Can ALKA help with residential and commercial specifications?
Yes. Share the location, surface type, condition, exposure, desired finish and programme. ALKA can help assess product selection and preparation. If you need an applicator, ask about a suitable contractor introduction, subject to project requirements and availability.
